DOCTRINES SUMMARY

DOCTRINE OF PRIMARY JURISDICTION
Courts will not resolve a controversy involving a question which is within the jurisdiction of an

administrative tribunal

DOCTRINE OF ADHERENCE OF JURISDICTION
Once jurisdiction has attached, it cannot be ousted by subsequent happenings or events,

although of a character which would have prevented jurisdiction from attaching in the first

instance. The court, once jurisdiction has been acquired, retains that jurisdiction until it finally

disposes of the case (Bantua vs. Mercader, 350 SCRA 86)

DOCTRINE OF THE LAW OF THE CASE

A decision that has attained finality becomes the law of the case regardless of any claim that it is

erroneous.

DOCTRINE OF INDEPENDENTLY RELEVANT STATEMENTS
A witness may testify to the statements made by a person if they are the facts in issue, or are

circumstantial evidence of the facts in issue and independent of whether the facts stated are

true. [kung sinabi ba, hindi kung totoo yung sinabi]
