of creamy color are food-grade organic and filled with some of our
most trusted skin care ingredients. Best applied with a finger, they
look amazing on lips cheeks.

These darling little antique-looking cases are cheap, amazingly
hydrating and are certified USDA organic—which is particularly
appealing since we all know you can’t avoid accidentally eating your
lip balm.

These taste good, wear long, and come in richly pigmented colors.
You can get pearlescent ones or matte and, rest assured that unlike the
crushed-bug lipsticks that currently occupy your kit, these are loaded
with good-for-you ingredients. We love their True Red and Old Rose.

This product has a really lovely, smooth feel on the lips and comes in
a variety of earth-toned pinks, with one or two deeper shades. It’s a
more subtle look—definitely great for everyday wear.

Burt’s offers up a wide variety of basic lip balms, but we were
surprised at how much we liked their color line, too—they really
cover those pinky-wine-mauvey-browns in all of their yummy shades
(you know, raisin, rhubard, merlot . . . ).

If you like a shiny, wet lip, then Juice Organics makes the perfect

gloss for you. It looks great alone or blended with a color to turn any
lipstick into a sheerer gloss, with lots of healthy oils to lock moisture
into lips.

Intelligent Nutrients Lipbalm

This is hands down the most nourishing, nonaddictive, delicious-
smelling, and effective lip moisturizer we’ve ever used. Put it on
before bed, over lip stains, or lay it on thick for a shimmery look.

W3LL People Nudist Lip Shine

Created by a dermatologist/makeup artist/hippie trio, this entire line is
packed with skin-friendly ingredients and comes in richly pigmented
palettes. The Nudist lip balms are amazing, go on thick, stay put, and
one of the shades reminds us of a Clinique best-seller: Black Honey
Almost Lipstick.

W3LL People Universalist Multistick

These are go-anywhere sticks of insanely concentrated pigment that
you can work into the skin for a gentle flush, or build to levels of
intensity that are hard to find in naturals. The red is the reddest natural
we’ve found and can look insanely dramatic (in the best way). We
like the pinks and reds best.

Jane Iredale Eyeliner Pencil

This is your standard black (or brown, or blue, or grey, or taupe)
pencil liner. Every girl needs one of these, and it’s a no-compromise
transition.

In this study done on frogs, 17 percent of the tadpoles developed something
