Title: First Visions
Author: Heather Topham Wood
Series: Second Sight #1
Two years ago, 21-year-old Kate Edwards became deathly ill and slipped into a coma. While unconscious, she crept into the mind of a missing boy and awoke with the knowledge of his location. Friends and family were skeptical and wary of her new ability to see into the minds of others. Their fears prompted Kate to keep her psychic powers a secret. Feeling alienated, she dropped out of college and spent most of her days holed up at her mother’s home.
Now another child has been abducted. Police detective Jared Corbett seeks out Kate for her help in solving the case. Reluctantly, Kate agrees and they must work together to bring 8-year-old Cori Preston home to her family. Although attracted to one another, Jared has a girlfriend with ties to the abduction case and Kate is sarcastic and guarded since her coma. With visions she can’t control and an uncontrollable attraction to the detective, she wonders if she can leave the past behind and finally stop hiding from the world. Otherwise, Cori may be lost forever.

What I thought about First Visions:
First Visions was such a fun and suspenseful read for me and I loved every bit of it!
Kate is a psychic yet she denies that fact to everyone who asks especially her family. Her reasons for doing so are solid – she doesn’t want to be treated like she’s crazy, or be anyone’s last hope for help. Everything Kate’s been through last time she helped the police with her visions has made her a recluse. Though her witty and sarcastic comments are what make her instantly lovable for the reader. I loved Kate she just seemed so real and relatable it’s hard not to like her.
Jared is a detective who seeks out Kate to help find his girlfriend’s little sister Cori. Jared is tall, handsome and athletically built. No wonder Kate fell for him at first sight! Only thing is he is taken and his girlfriend is in the middle of a family crisis, nothing screams unavailable more than that does.
Despite everything Kate’s been through in the past, her huge inappropriate crush and her utter unwillingness to become the next freak show in the media again she feels compelled to help the little girl.
I really liked how Kate and Jared’s relationship grew. It started off slow until both of them were unable to avoid their attraction towards each other. And as you can imagine once they do confront their feelings all hell breaks loose. I don’t want to give too much away so if you want to know what happens read the book!
One thing you should know about First Visions is that despite the label paranormal it didn’t feel like one. Sure the main character is psychic but the book is not strong on the supernatural side of things. Which was a breath of fresh air me.
If you want something filled with mystery, suspense and a bit of saucy romance I insist you grab a copy of this book. You’ll love it. Like me you’ll be wondering where Kate’s visions will take us next!
